Carving

Sculptural and ornamental carving — relief work, figures, and decorative elements shaped one cut at a time with mallet and gouge.

Heron Relief Panel

Heron Relief Panel

A 36-inch relief carving of a great blue heron in basswood. Carved with gouges and a mallet over four weeks — no power tools, no shortcuts. The feather detail took longer than everything else combined. Commissioned for a lakeside cabin, mounted above the fireplace where the light catches the depth of the cuts.

Acanthus Leaf Corbels

Acanthus Leaf Corbels

A matched set of eight acanthus leaf corbels in white oak, designed for a historic home restoration. Each corbel is identical in design but slightly different in execution — that's how you know they were carved by hand. Installed under the eave returns on the front elevation.

Walking Stick — Vine and Thorn

Walking Stick — Vine and Thorn

A carved walking stick from a single piece of hawthorn, featuring a spiraling vine motif with thorns and small leaves. The handle is a ram's head — a nod to Old Goat Creative. Finished with linseed oil and beeswax. This one I kept.
